Manglik hoon — to kya shaadi nahi hogi?
If someone has just told you that you are manglik and that it is a problem for your marriage, the short answer is: it is not a verdict, it is one factor among several, and there is a good chance the same classical texts already set it aside for your chart.
That last part is the half that rarely gets said, and it is the reason this page exists.
First, how common it is
Mars occupies one of the six relevant houses in a large share of charts. Counting from the ascendant, the Moon and Venus — the three reckonings the tradition actually uses — a majority of charts show the dosha from at least one of them.
Something that describes most people is not a diagnosis. It is a factor, and it is treated as one by practitioners who are not selling anything.
The half that usually goes missing
The same tradition that describes the dosha describes the conditions that cancel it. These are not modern softenings — they are in the classical material alongside the rule itself.
Running the cancellations across a large sample of charts, roughly two in three of the charts that carry the dosha also carry at least one condition that classically sets it aside. That figure depends on which reckoning you count from, and we count from all three; a stricter convention gives a smaller number. It is stated with its method attached because a statistic you cannot reproduce is just a nicer kind of assertion.
- Both charts carrying the dosha — the classical answer to a manglik match has always been another manglik.
- Mars in Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn — its own signs or its exaltation, where the tradition holds the dosha does not form.
- Jupiter aspecting or joined to Mars, or Mars with Venus — benefic influence, widely held to neutralise it.
- Jupiter's aspect on the 7th house itself, which protects the house of marriage directly.
Cancellation is not a remedy
This distinction is the whole thing, and it is blurred on purpose almost everywhere else.
A cancellation is a condition already present in the chart, which means the dosha never formed. There is nothing to do, nothing to buy, and nothing to fix. A remedy is an action you perform to reduce a dosha that is present — a puja, a stone, a fast — and it costs money.
When someone tells you about the dosha and moves straight to the remedy, they have skipped the step where anyone checked whether it applies to you at all.
What actually matters in a match
Even where the dosha does stand, it is one input among eight kootas and a great deal that is not in either chart. Guna milan itself is routinely reduced to a single score out of 36, which hides which kootas moved the number — and two of them carry most of the weight.
A great many marriages between a manglik and a non-manglik chart are entirely ordinary. That is not reassurance; it is what the distribution looks like when most charts carry the dosha.
Before anyone calls anything off
Check the chart rather than the claim. Which houses is Mars actually in, counted from which point, and does any cancellation apply. All of that is computed and free here, and there is nothing to buy at the end of it.
If a match is being reconsidered over this, the least anyone should have is the complete rule — including the part that would have ended the conversation.
Common questions
Manglik hone se shaadi ruk jaati hai kya?
Nahi. It is one factor, not a verdict, and in a large share of charts a classical cancellation already applies. What decides a match is the whole picture, and most of that is not in either chart.
Can a manglik marry a non-manglik?
Yes, and a great many do. Where both charts carry the dosha the tradition treats it as cancelled outright; where only one does, the cancellations on that chart are the first thing to check.
Do I need a puja or a kumbh vivah?
Check first whether the dosha applies to your chart at all. If a cancellation is present the dosha did not form, and there is nothing to remedy. We do not sell remedies and have no reason to tell you that you need one.
How do I find out if a cancellation applies to me?
Enter your birth details. The reading names the reckonings the dosha shows from and every cancellation that applies, free.
Is manglik dosha counted from the ascendant or the Moon?
The tradition uses both, and Venus as well in southern practice. We count from all three and say which ones show it, because a family who cross-checks with someone counting from the Moon should not find two different answers.
